Employment Claims

What is an Employment Claim?

Typically the relationship between an employer and an employee is said to be one "at will." Simply, that means that the employee can quit any time, and the employer can terminate the employee at any time with or without cause. However, there are many restrictions and complicated legal and public policy issues that are involved in the employment relationship. Issues such as sex, age, or race discrimination can affect an employment relationship and the responsibilities involved in such a relationship. Where an employee is put in a position where he or she is asked to do something illegal or immoral, that can give rise to claims. Where an employee reports illegal activity of an employer to an official public agency, and the employer retaliates, the employee can have a claim against his or her employer.
